Before the brush...breathe. Before the sword...silence.
In June I passed my 1sk Kyu grading in Iaido and Kubudo weapons. You might think creating art has little in common with cutting using a Japanese katana sword, but there are in fact, many thoughts and actions that are the same.

To create the most natural brush stroke, as well as the most effective sword cut, the mind needs to be still, the breathe needs to be relaxed, both actions, flow from the mind and body without hesitation, distraction or doubt.

This is as a result of hours of practice until the work is natural, organic, an extension of the soul which aspires to turn action into actuality. I continue to practice in order to progress with a mixture of hard work and meditative resignation. Nothing is perfect, nothing is permanent, yet I try to express a moment of truth which reflects life, beautiful and broken. Ying and Yang.
